Hattusha was the ancient Hittite capital, a well-defended site amid the rocky, windswept upper elevations of central Antatolia. This is a place of worship a couple of km from the city, where they had converted a natural cleft in a large rock outcropping into an open-air sanctuary. The niche is for offerings.
